Community Takeover: “It is a unique experience and we think it will be a wonderful opportunity for him.”

Thirteen-year-old Zenon is just one of the ten children who will take part in our Community Takeover at Brentford’s game against Blackburn this Saturday. He will go behind the scenes and join the Operations Team to ensure the smooth running on matchday.

Zenon, who has autism, benefits from the Trust’s Short Breaks project, which supports children with disabilities through free sporting activities during the school holidays. Along with multi-sports, the children benefit from kayaking on Brentford Lock, swimming and cycling. Commissioned by Hounslow Council, the project has been credited with supporting 150 children over the past year.

Speaking ahead of the Community Takeover, Zenon’s mum said:

“I think he will enjoy watching someone take control of situations and checking things thoroughly. It is a unique experience and we think it will be a wonderful opportunity for him.”

Zenon will join nine other children for the Club’s first ever Community Takeover for Brentford’s game against Blackburn. From the press box to the football pitch, the youngsters will go behind the scenes and join a number of matchday staff to learn the ropes.

Reuben, who also benefits from the Trust’s Short Breaks project, will also be taking part in the Community Takeover by working in the Club Shop.

Speaking about the takeover, Reuben said:

“I am really really excited! I cannot wait to take part in this role!”

Reuben’s mum believes the role could help him gain invaluable experience, she said:

“This is an exciting opportunity for him to work in a football club environment and gain some experience of how things work in a shop.”

The match is part of Brentford FC’s ongoing commitment to community initiatives. For every ticket bought at the game, £1 will be donated to Brentford FC Community Sports Trust – helping people like Mia.

Cliff Crown, Brentford FC Chairman, said: “This is a fantastic idea and I am delighted we have been able to work with the Trust to create such a memorable event. It will be a great sight to see young people that engage with Brentford FC via our Trust heavily involved on matchday and getting a view behind the scenes. I am sure our fans will give them all the support they need on the day as well.”
