Local MP Virendra Sharma visits our NCS programme!

 In News

Wave 4 participants of our NCS programme had a surprise visit from a local MP who talked about his journey to becoming a Member of Parliament

Virendra Sharma was born in India before immigrating to the UK in 1968. His working journey began as a bus conductor on the 207 bus route which goes through Southall and Ealing, he then began studying at the London School of Economics on a Trade Union Scholarship and eventually worked as a day services manager for people with learning disabilities in Hillingdon. His political journey has seen him working as a councillor in Ealing for 25 years which also included a term as a mayor.

Mr Sharma spoke to our NCS participants about his journey and how important it is for the next generation of young people to continue to push for change in their local communities and create their own legacies. As part of the NCS programme, the ‘Do Good’ phase allows participants to take what they’ve learnt and work together on projects they feel passionately about that will positively impact their local communities.
