Young People Gain FA qualification
During May half-term, young people from our community coaching programme had the opportunity to complete their first coaching coalification – the FA Junior Football Leader Course.
The youngsters, who take part in the Trust’s Be Inspired and Premier League Kicks project, were given a basic introduction into the leadership skills required for football coaching.
The course focuses on four key coaching areas:
- assisting football activity sessions
- introduction to refereeing
- working in a team at different football events
- promoting respect and fair-play, in line with The FA’s and FIFA’s values.
15-year-old Sarpjeet, from the Trust’s Be Inspired project, said:
“I enjoyed the course very much and learnt new football tips that I did not know – I am hoping to practice this with the under 14s session at Swift Road, Southall.’’
Tomas Abreu, Marketing Manager and Be Inspired Coordinator at the Trust, said:
“The FA’s Junior Football Leader Course is a great AQA qualification for young people; helping them gain valuable experience.
“Our Communities Engagement projects provide qualifications and volunteering opportunities to all young people. In my opinion, courses like this are a catalyst in increasing work experience opportunities and professional aspirations for young people.”
The Be Inspired project, in partnership with the housing provider A2Dominion and BBC Children in Need, offers community coaching, mentoring and support for young people of across west London, including any participants with disabilities. This year alone it has engaged with a staggering 223 young people.
