Young Brentford fans meet their footballing heroes at Trust event

 In News, Soccer Schools

More than 80 young Bees fans kicked off their half-term with an exciting “Meet the Players” day at Uxbridge High School yesterday.

The event, run by Brentford FC Community Sports Trust, saw excited young fans meet the likes of Brentford striker Neal Maupay and Brentford captain Romaine Sawyers.

After the young fans showcased their football skills, a sea of red shirts lined up to chat to the players as they posed for selfies and signed dozens of shirts, boots and scarves.

Rob Moles, who brought his seven-year-old son Mason to the event, said:

“Mason is a massive Brentford fan and events like today are so special to him. As a football club, Brentford are so family orientated and the players go above and beyond for the local community.”

Mason joined the sixth annual Meet the Players Day, which involved a training session with the Trust’s FA qualified coaching staff before the players joined the youngsters for a game of football.

Brentford’s Goalkeeper, Dan Bentley, believes that professional footballers can achieve as much off the pitch as on it, he said:

In my opinion, professional footballers have a responsibility to the local community and events like today are a fantastic opportunity for children and young Brentford fans to meet us.

“I think it is important that we raise awareness of local community initiatives and highlight our profile off the pitch.”

Dan Bentley has been involved in a number of community initiatives with the Trust; last year he signed up to be the Trust’s Equalities and Disabilities Ambassador

And the Trust’s Operations Director, Luke Skelhorn, appreciates the support the squad have given to their community project. He said:

““Brentford FC has always prided itself on its community ethos and events like this prove the players’ commitment to the local community. Our player Ambassadors project – which was recently shortlisted at the London Football Awards – demonstrates how Brentford players go that extra mile to support community projects they feel most passionate about.

“Today’s Meet the Players event is another example of players connecting with junior supporters and we appreciate the continued support of Thomas Frank and all the football staff. Our partnership with Uxbridge High School continues to develop as we increase our presence within the borough of Hillingdon.”
