Students from our BTEC programme play against Lewisham Borough this weekend

 In News

Students from our BTEC Education programme with West Thames College will play against Lewisham Borough at S.t Pauls Sports Ground on Saturday at 4pm. The budding young footballers are part of the Trust’s Football Education programme, which enables students to study for a BTEC Level Three sports diploma while enhancing their football skills.

The friendly represents a number of matches the programme is involved with – including the highly competitive Community Education Football Alliance (CEFA) League with the English Football League. Most recently, the youngsters played the CEFA Regional Cup Final at Griffin Park.

Former Brentford player, Ryan Peters, runs the successful BTEC programme and spoke about the challenging element of this friendly. He said:

“Playing Lewisham as a first pre-season opener demonstrates how challenging and enjoyable we have made games this season.

“We expect the game to be incredibly tough, but a wealth of learning will be taken from this game.”

Over the last four years, the programme have seen ten boys sign professional contracts with teams such as Leeds, Bournemouth, Stevenage and Brentford. Other students – after completing the BTEC – have successfully progressed into employment while signing semi-professional terms with clubs such as Maidenhead, CB Hounslow and Hendon. Interestingly, some students have embarked on 100% scholarships at American colleges.

If you’re interested in joining our BTEC programme, sign up for our trials in August, more information can be found here.
