Brentford Players Make a Special Visit to a Primary School in Ealing

Brentford players Chiedozie Ogbene and Josh Clarke visited Mount Carmel Catholic Primary School in Ealing yesterday. The event, which saw dozens of children line up to meet the players, was part of a wider initiative that encourages primary schools, junior clubs and community groups to attend Brentford’s community matches.

The players also took part in a sports club for children with special needs – mentoring the pupils and helping them increase their confidence through sport. Three pupils – revealed as budding journalists – also interviewed the players for the school newsletter. The pupils grilled the players on their favourite footballer, the best goal they have scored in their career and which football team they support.

Chiedozie Ogbene, who joined Brentford in January, highlighted the importance of players working in schools and the local community, he said:

“I was once a kid like these pupils, and I know how much it would have meant to me if a football player came into my school.

“I hope I can motivate these children to achieve their goals and inspire them to get involved with football and Brentford FC.”

The primary school sold more than 45 tickets for the Primary Schools Day game against Sheffield United on Good Friday.

Lee Doyle, Chief Executive of Brentford FC Community Sports Trust, said:

“Working with the Club, we have committed to develop more activities in the coming years – using sport and education to change lives. You can help us do that by coming to support your local club. It’s a win-win!”

Brentford’s match against Hull City on Sunday 6 May has been earmarked as a community match, raising funds to sustain and grow Brentford FC Community Sports Trust’s health, community, education and disability projects. For this game only, Brentford FC will donate £1 to the Trust for every match ticket sold.
