Sergi Canos wins the “PFA’s Community Champion” award for the 2nd year running
For the 2nd year running, Brentford player Sergi Canos was crowned “Community Champion of the Year” by the PFA this week.
Sergi, who has been recognised for a range of community accolades, was presented with his award at the training ground.
Sergi’s involvement in Brentford FC Community Sports Trust includes:
- Attending a wellbeing workshop for young carers and highlighting the importance of mental health on World Mental Health Day.
- Taking part in the launch of our Show Racism the Red Card project and tackling racism in football.
- Promoting our online activities during the government lockdown.
Speaking about his involvement in the local community, he said:
“I have always felt Brentford was a community-led football club and in my role as a Health Ambassador I hope to contribute to this reputation through my work with its Community Sports Trust.
“Using my platform as a professional footballer, I want to continue giving people a voice and promote causes I feel most passionate about. Whether that’s encouraging people to become more active or tackling the stigma surrounding mental health.”

“Sergi has yet again proven himself as an exemplary ambassador for Brentford FC Community Sports Trust, approaching community initiatives with the same energy and enthusiasm that he displays on the pitch. Sergi has promoted key campaigns; including much-needed support for young carers and our Show Racism the Red Card project with the European Football Development Network.
“Sergi had strong competition for the award this year with a multitude of Bees players contributing to our #BeeatHome campaign during lockdown. There was great enthusiasm for online sessions and the advice they gave our aspiring footballers was inspiring. It looks as though the players have taken the energy back into the campaign for promotion.”
