Meet our Premier League Community Champion
Lee Doyle, Chief Executive for Brentford FC Community Sports Trust was named as Brentford FC’s Community Captain in recognition of his incredible work in the community.
The Community Captain armbands and pennants are being given to more than 100 members of the public who have made an outstanding contribution to their club and local area, as part of the Premier League’s 30th-anniversary celebrations.
Lee, Chief Executive Officer at Brentford FC Community Sports Trust, was nominated due to his remarkable commitment and innovation in leading the organisation over a 35-year period which has benefited the local community across all ages and backgrounds. Lee has overseen Brentford FC Community Sports Trust in winning the ‘Football League Community Club of the Year’ award four times.
Lee Doyle commented: “It was a surprise and an honour really to be named as a Premier League Community Captain, but I’d like to accept the award on behalf of the team of people at our Community Trust who make things possible for others.
Brentford F.C. wanted to recognise his achievements by awarding him the accolade of Community Captain for the work that Brentford FC Community Sports Trust offer in the areas of education, employability, sports participation, health and community engagement for participants of ages in the local community.
“Receiving the license for the Emerging Talent Centre will boost our programme for girls, this gives us an area of focus and more resources so girls can grow and love the game.”
The award was presented to Lee at our Premier League Primary Stars tournament last week which celebrated the Premier League’s 30th anniversary and featured a number of London clubs such as Chelsea, Arsenal and West Ham who were all represented by one of the schools in which they deliver the Primary Stars programme. The primary school girls tournament also welcomed a number of special guests including former lionesses, Brentford FC Women’s players and a WSL referee who joined in on the celebrations for the 30th anniversary and the Premier Leagues announcement that they will be partially funding the FA’s Emerging Talent Centres which, Brentford FC Community Sports Trust have received a license for.
Across England and Wales, Premier League investment supports the community organisations of all 92 Premier League and English Football League clubs, plus the 68 National League clubs. Over the next three years, the League will continue its world-leading levels of support by contributing £1.6 billion to communities and the wider game.
