More than 150 children took part in a free football taster session at Gunnersbury Park’s new sports hub last Saturday. The facility, which boasts one of the largest outdoor sporting facilities in London, will mean local people will soon have access to a huge range of activities to help them maintain a fit and active lifestyle.

Delivered by the Trust’s experienced coaches, the taster session saw a mixture of boys and girls take part in an exciting football session at the state-of-the-art facilities. After the session, more than hundred children attended Brentford’s game against Stoke at Griffin Park.

Sian, whose four-year-old son attended the session, said:

““My son thoroughly enjoyed the session and all the credit goes to the coaches who were encouraging and supportive to Jesse – helping him to develop his football skills.

“I also think a football session like this helps children develop a lifelong love of physical activity and sport – we can’t wait to join the Mini-Bees sessions.”

The new sports hub is a collaboration between Ealing and Hounslow Councils and involves Brentford FC Community Sports Trust, University of West London, the London International School and local leisure provider Better.

Tomas Abreu, Marketing and Partnership Manager at the Trust, spoke about how the taster session coincides with the launch of the new Mini Bees programme for boys and girls aged three to twelves years old.

Speaking about the programme, he said:

‘’Our new Mini-Bees programme is for boys and girls every Saturday morning from 8:30am to 12pm. From January onwards, we will also be able to provide opportunities for children as young as 18-months-old, which will offer young children the ability to develop technical and social skills in a safe and fun environment.’’

Along with the Mini-Bees programme, the Trust will be running, girls and boys football development sessions; junior and adult leagues; futsal sessions and exciting birthday parties at the hub.
