Collis Primary School, representing Brentford FC, lost out to Blackburn Rovers at the EFL Kids Cup Championship Final on Monday. Pupils from the primary school in Teddington had a once in a lifetime opportunity to play on the hallowed turf at Wembley stadium.

The match took place just before the play-off final between Aston Villa and Derby County and was watched by thousands of football fans.

Both sides battled hard for the win in the Championship Kids Cup Final, and the game was just seconds away from penalties before Rovers captain Daniel Armer scored a last-gasp winner.

Pupils from Collis Primary School reached the final after winning the regional tournament hosted by the Aston Villa Foundation back in April. They won all six matches before beating Swansea 1-0 in the final match.

Jamie Tompkins, Community Development Manager for Brentford FC Community Sports Trust, said:

“The players from Collis Primary have enjoyed a fantastic day at Wembley Stadium courtesy of the English Football League Trust. Although they didn’t win the Cup, they certainly won the prize of playing at Wembley in front of thousands of fans – it will certainly be a day they will never forget!

“They have represented Brentford brilliantly and they should be immensely proud of their achievement.”

Recognised as one of the largest national football competitions, the Kids Cup involves more than 16,000 children, which culminated in the final at Wembley on Monday.
