Marathon Bees – Candice Scott

This year the London Marathon returns to its traditional slot in the running calendar on Sunday 23 April. With less than 12-weeks to go, we caught up with Candice, who is one of four runners raising funds for the Trust this year. Candice started training at the beginning of the year and will be running the marathon alongside her stepdad Phil.

Hi Candice, would you tell us a bit about yourself?

I am 32 and currently living in Manchester. I’m originally from West London and was very local to Brentford. I work at Puma as an Analyst and as you can imagine all things sport are a big focus in our business, which has been a great support in taking up running as a hobby.

What inspired you to run the marathon on behalf of Brentford FC Community Sports Trust?

As a local to the area and a sports enthusiast I believe in the power of sports being able to bring a community together, educate and motivate.

How’s your training been going so far? What’s been your longest run to date?

I started fully training at the beginning of January, which has started off very Icey and cold in Manchester! My current longest run to date in my training is 10 miles.

What do you find to be the most rewarding thing about running?

The rewards comes from reaching your end goal not matter how far or fast is it is, not all runs are easy but the ability to push yourself beyond your comfort soon and test your mental strengths is my motivation.

Do you have a go to playlist or podcasts when running? Any recommendations?

So, I sometimes do my long runs with nothing as I find it easier to concentrate. However recently I have been working my way through Joe Rogan podcasts.

What are your top tips for other people who are thinking about taking a similar challenge?

Persistence is key, your progression may not always be visible but keep on pushing through it will come.

Have you run a marathon before? If yes, what marathons and when?

 I have only run one marathon, which was the Manchester one last year. I failed to follow a training plan and I’m not entirely sure how I finished – but I made it! I’m hoping to top that with following a set out plan this time.

Do you have a target time or goal on the day? If so, what is it?

I’m hoping to achieve 4:20.

What message do you have for people who are supporting you by donating?

And finally, what’s the first thing you’re going to do after the marathon?

Hopefully not cry, but go for a well-earned celebratory drink with friends and family!
