Club and Trust Staff Unite for Windrush Anniversary Event

Earlier this week staff across Brentford FC and the Trust united at the Community Stadium Hub for an event to mark the 75th anniversary of the HMT Empire Windrush arriving in Britain on 22 June 1948.

As part of the event staff members from the Club and Trust and some of their relatives came together to share more about their stories, culture, and experiences.

Windrush Day is an annual event celebrated in the United Kingdom on 22 June to commemorate the arrival of the Empire Windrush ship in 1948.

The ship carried hundreds of Caribbean people, who were invited to help rebuild Britain after World War II and were known as the Windrush generation. This year will mark the 75th anniversary of the arrival of the Empire Windrush.

Those in attendance enjoyed an array of Caribbean food whilst also hearing first-hand stories of adventure and adversity.

Toren Scott, Senior Education Coordinator, Brentford FC Community Sports Trust, commented, “To celebrate the Windrush Generation and the 75th Anniversary, Bevan and I spoke on our connections to the generation and their contributions to British society and culture past and present.

“It was a great event as it allowed for colleagues to hear from a range of panelists like ourselves and enabled us to share stories about the Windrush Generation, their journeys from the Caribbean, as well as depicting their trials, tribulations and forming new lives overseas.”
